Beauty: Marc Jacob Perfecting Coconut Face Primer

The job of any great foundation primer is to provide a smooth canvas for makeup application, as well as helping your foundation last longer. We're happy to say Marc Jacobs Under(cover) Perfecting Coconut Face Primer does just that, with a fluid formula that makes skin feel noticeably softer.

Under(cover) Perfecting Coconut Face Primer comes in Marc Jacobs' standard sleek packaging, this time being a round, frosted glass bottle topped with a pump-style dispenser. As mentioned above, the primer is a fluid lotion that glides across skin with ease and absorbs quickly. It feels very moisturizing and sets to a slightly dewy finish, making it best for those with normal to dry skin.

We found that this did help improve foundation application, creating a smooth surface that made application easier and quicker. It also extended the wear time of our foundation by a couple of hours—hey, we'll take all we can get!

So what about the coconut that's this primer's claim to fame? This does indeed have five coconut-derived ingredients, making them good additions to add moisture to skin and alternatives to the other commonly used (but still great) emollients such as silicone, glycerin, and squalane.

This primer does have a light coconut scent, but that's not from the coconut ingredients included; rather, it's from the addition of a small amount of fragrance. That, plus the fragrance ingredient linalool at the end of the ingredient list mean this could be slightly iffy for those with very sensitive skin, but most should be able to use this without issue.

Though it's certainly not the least expensive primer option out there, Marc Jacob's Under(cover) Perfecting Coconut Face Primer is certainly worth a look because of its positive qualities, up to and including the fact that it really does enhance foundation application and wear time.

Pros:
  •     Applies easily and absorbs quickly.
  •     Feels moisturizing and creates a smooth canvas for makeup.
  •     Aids in makeup application and really does extend the wear of foundation.
Cons:
  • Contains a small amount of fragrance and the fragrance ingredient linalool, which isn't ideal for sensitive skin.
