Best Blusher for Perfect Glow

6:13 AM

Blusher is a must-have in any make-up routine. Even if you're a bronzer 'gal, a complexion isn't complete without a hint of gel, cream or powder formula to brighten it up and give it a youthful glow. There are a whole host of formulas to choose from as the beauty industry has got the classic product truly sorted - which isn't too surprising when you think it's been around for centuries. Now big brands have got their powders down, they're creating new creams, sticks and gels which compete with the classics, and all so you can choose which texture and application will suit you, your skin and your life.

First up, if you've got a fair or medium complexion, go for a rose or peach-toned blush. More orangey tones and deep berries will complement a darker complexion.
If you're a fan of a matte complexion, a powder is the right blusher for you. Apply all your other make-up before starting, then sweep a dusting of powder across the apples of your cheeks and up the cheekbones - like a genuine blush. Don't overdo it though; it's always easier to build up than tone down.

If you like a dewy complexion, as seen on the SS15 catwalks, a gel or cream blusher will suit your routine. Dap your finger tips into the pot and blend naturally from the apples and fade out across the cheekbones. There's all different applicators, too. Powders are often in clever compacts which are harder than ever to smash - we're loving Smashbox's twisting pot which releases the blusher - and the creams can be applies almost everywhere; perfect for on-the-go make-up touch-ups.

Bobbi Brown Pot Rouge, RM120

This multi award-winning Bobbi Brown blusher, which has featured in our Best Beauty Buys, is a real industry favourite. There's still the classic formula, for a natural glowing enhancement, but now it's in a handy mirrored compact. Remember to moisturise dry skin before applying or blending over fresh foundation for an even finish. It also doubles up as a lip tint.
Perfect for: On the go and multi-purpose

BareMinerals natural powder blush (RM120) is the nearest you'll come to a cream (while being a powder), the super-smooth formula blends in, defining features and brightening the complexion for a natural look. Only put a dusting of the powder on the blush and build it up to achieve a deeper colour. We absolutely love the applicator, too. While powder blushers risk spillages, bareMinerals have created a clever pot which only releases the make-up when you twist it.
Perfect for: Sensitive and problem-prone skin
