YSL - Rouge Pur Couture Vernis À Lèvres Pop Water Glossy Stain

Rouge Pur Couture Vernis À Lèvres Pop Water Glossy Stain is a summer-inspired spinoff of YSL's original Rouge Pur Couture Glossy Stain. While the formulas are similar, this version is marketed as a long-wear lip gloss that leaves a vibrant splash of sheer color. It doesn't come close to the "10-hour hydration" claim that YSL makes (you'll be lucky to get a couple hours at best), and we also noticed that it took multiple coats to reach "vibrant" status due to the translucency of the colors, but there's still reason to consider this glossy stain if sheer, bright lip color is your thing.

Rouge Pur Couture Vernis À Lèvres Pop Water Glossy Stain offers a nice compromise for those who are anti-lipstick but want something that gives them longer wearing color than a gloss. Its hybrid texture resembles a lightweight gel that feels a bit tacky on lips. It doesn't feel as silky-smooth as gloss, but as a tradeoff, you get longer lasting wear and a hint of color left over after it wears off. The slanted applicator is easy to work with and is just the right size to allow for precise, even distribution.

What about the shades? The range leans toward bright, sheer hues (including berries, pinks and orangey red), though there a few softer options (such as "Eau De Corail 203"). To reach full intensity, it definitely helps to layer these babies on. Each leaves a wet sheen on lips that is nicely balanced, not overly glossy (no shimmer).

All things considered, Rouge Pur Couture Vernis À Lèvres Pop Water Glossy Stain is a worthwhile option to check out if you're a fan of the translucent colors—just don't count on it to feel amazingly smooth or hydrating for hours on end.

Note: This formula contains fragrance, though not an overwhelming amount.

Pros:
    Offers long-wearing glossy color.
Translucent yet vibrant shades that can be layered for more intensity.
Leaves a subtle hint of even color as it wears off.

Cons:
    Has a tacky feel.
Falls vastly short of "10-hour hydration" claim.
